Upstairs at the #witchymodernhouse

When we first purchased the #witchymodernhouse, we initially planned to add a shed dormer to the second level in order to make the house a two bedroom. The building already had a walk up attic that would make this possible. But while working with an architect, we realized it made more sense to rebuild the second floor entirely in order to increase the amount of usable living space. These changes allowed us to create a second level with a spacious full bathroom, two bedrooms, and a sitting room/office. There was even an attic space on the third level that accommodated the heating system and offered a bit of storage.

The first bedroom was directly across the hall from the bathroom, making it perfect for guests. We kept the finishes in this space consistent with the rest of the house, opting for white walls, black doors, and light oak hardwood floors.

When you walked down the hall, you entered a bright, airy space that could be used as an office or second living room. We vaulted the ceiling in this space and added lots of windows to take advantage of the natural light.

Directly off the sitting room was the larger of the two bedrooms. It featured tons of natural light and a generously sized closet with double sets of doors.

As the #witchymodernhouse was intended as a condo alternative, we designed the second floor to provide functionality for the single person or couple that would most likely be using the space everyday, but also accommodate guests on occasion.
