Putting the #witchymodernhouse on the map

Our largest and most transformative project to date has been the #witchymodernhouse. Originally a bait shop, and then a tailor's, we saw a lot of potential in this one story building located on one of the main entrance corridors into downtown Salem.

When designing the house, we incorporated a steeply pitched roof and angular dormers to give the exterior a modern look. We added lots of two-over-two black windows to maximize the natural light inside, while opting for charcoal board and batten vinyl siding to create a dark and moody exterior. A light blue door provides a pop color and contrast.

Originally, the property included a small gravel storage area behind the building. Because parking was limited, we used half of this area to create an official off-street parking space for the house. We finished the other half of the backyard with stone pavers to create an outdoor entertaining space that required limited maintenance. For privacy, we built a horizontal slat fence across the back and side of the house.

Our goal with the exterior of this house was to design something unique and modern that still fit in with Salem's many historic homes.
